definition
A noun clause is a subordinate clause that acts as any other noun--as a subject, object, or appositive. The entire clause may answer the question What? Who? or Whom? Pair this subordinate clause with an independent clause to form a complete sentence.
The introductory word could serve as the subject or an object within the noun clause, or it may not serve any grammatical function at all. Also, sometimes a writer may omit the word that from the beginning of a noun clause.
